Our History
Piedmont Federal Savings Bank got its start in 1903, when a small group of businessmen saw a need for a reliable source for home financing in Winston-Salem and created Piedmont Building and Loan Association. In 1911, a young man from Stokes County named Nicholas Mitchell became managing officer. His leadership helped the association prepare for the turbulent times of the Great Depression. In the end, not a single depositor lost a penny. N.W. Mitchell followed in his father’s footsteps and led the institution from the 1950s into the 1980s. Today, the family tradition continues with CEO Nick W. Mitchell, Jr., at the helm, leading Piedmont Federal into its next 100 years.
