Boone Chamber of Commerce Adult Spelling Bee   Habitat for Humanity 3rd Annual Charity Challenge
Vilma Sanqui and Susan Norris participated in the Boone Chamber of Commerce Adult Spelling Bee, a fundraiser for the local school system.

Since the first event over ten years ago, Piedmont Federal has not had a team. Thankfully we can count because our team was the first one out and worked the Bee Bank. For every word a team mis-spells, they have to pay 1 Bee Buck, which costs $10. It’s amazing how many teams will keep buying Bee Bucks to keep from being the first team out!
Will Cook (RJ Reynolds High School) and Kyle Montgomery (Mt Tabor High School) presented a check for $6,000 to Sylvia Oberle (Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County). The check represents proceeds from the 3rd Annual Charity Challenge, sponsored by Piedmont Federal Savings Bank (Dean Browder, pictured on right).

The Charity Challenge pits the two rival high schools in a friendly competition to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. Events for the Challenge included a techno dance at the Millennium Center attended by over 400 youth, a dodge ball tournament; T-shirt sells; and a local restaurant competition in which proceeds were tallied for each school. Savings Bonds were awarded at the various events.
